Incredible Hulk #6 (03/10/1963)

detail.jpgQuick, hide the metal and stock up on plastic, because Incredible Hulk #6 features the metal-loving alien from Astra, the Metal Master. After having been exiled from his home planet for wanting to take it over, the Metal Master roams the galaxies until he is able to find another metal rich planet to take over. Luckily for him the Earth fits the bill. Unluckily for him the Earth is also home to the Hulk and the Teen Brigade.

While the Metal Master is an interesting villain, with the ability to manipulate metal at an atomic level, he cannot make up for the introduction of the Teen Brigade, which is just beyond stupid. In addition, things like turning into the Hulk, except for his head, and then having a mask conveniently near by, just really hurts this story. Also, the ending was just damn stupid or the Metal Master is just damn stupid. At least Ditko’s art hit the spot.

In the end, Incredible Hulk #6 continues to mess with the character in ways that hurt, rather than help and continues with randomly stopping ideas from one issue to the next, such as the longer he is the Hulk the more control he loses on it. Read only if you’re a fan of Metal Master.
