Oh where oh where have the Asgardian elements have gone in this series? After a slight bump up in the last issue, Journey Into Mystery #87 features yet again another communist plot. This time the communists are hypnotizing and abducting American scientists and holding them behind the Iron Curtain. Now, I get that the Cold War was a huge thing throughout the ’60s, but does that really fit in with a Norse god? Perhaps some more creativity in this area?
Beyond the uninspired plot, there are a couple of other problems with this issue. The first one is how does every place have a trap door? Also, while Thor was chained up couldn’t he still have called his hammer to him? I mean his hand were free to catch it. One the plus side, the artwork is still getting the job done.
In the end there isn’t anything that is super bad about this issue, but at the same time there isn’t anything that makes this issue standout either.
