Tales to Astonish #29 contains a story called, “When the Space Beasts Attack,” which features the Space Beasts, having just conquered another planet, led by Luther Gorr, invading the Earth with just a crazy amount of poorly drawn flying saucers. Soon the Space Beasts are wrecking havoc with their disintegration rays and just to do their sheer size. Can anything stop them? What does the farmer, Jeb, have to do with it?
This issue has a couple of positive things going for it. One, Kirby’s artwork and design of the Space Beasts is pretty well done. In addition, the story is okay, if not great. On the downside the twist, as this series’ early stories were known for, is just plane stupid and makes really no sense. In addition, you have advanced technology and the way you leave your ships are old school ladders? Still, I would recommend reading it just for the badass known as Jeb.
